If you bought a Bestway, Power Steel, Steel Pro or Coleman Power Steel above-ground pool between 2008 and 2024, you may be eligible for a payment from a $15 million Bestway pool settlement. The lawsuit alleged the pools' strap design created a drowning hazard. Claims are due October 30, 2026.

What Is the Bestway Pool Settlement About?

The case is In re Bestway Above-Ground Pools Litigation, Case No. 1:25-cv-09570, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Defendants are Bestway (USA) Inc., Bestway Inflatables & Material Corp. and Bestway (Hong Kong) International Ltd.

Plaintiffs alleged that on certain models, compression straps run along the outside of the vertical support legs. That design allegedly gives young children a foothold to climb into the pool, creating a drowning risk. The lawsuit also challenged the adequacy of an earlier recall.

Bestway agreed to settle without admitting fault. The settlement does not release personal injury or wrongful death claims, and it does not affect any rights under the existing pool recall.

Who Is Eligible?

You may be a class member if you are in the United States, its territories or D.C., and bought for personal use (not resale) a Bestway-branded pool that is:

  • 48 inches tall or taller
  • Built with compression straps outside the support poles
  • Sold from 2008 through 2024, including Power Steel, Steel Pro and Coleman Power Steel models

A receipt is not required for the base payment. The claim form asks for the pool's brand, dimensions and model or serial number.

How Much Will You Get?

Claimants without a receipt can request $40. Claimants with valid proof of purchase can request 10% of the price paid; if the proof shows no price, the payment is 10% of the pool's average retail price. Payments come from the $15 million fund after attorneys' fees and administration costs and may be adjusted pro rata. The exact amount depends on the number of valid claims filed.
